Chapter 3 Understanding the System

Sam wondered around looking for Willow. The path seems to go on for miles

Suddenly, a notification appeared before him. [Mission: Eliminate Demonhead Orc Tribe. Reward: 1 Karma Point]

"Karma Point? What is that?" he asked

[Karma Points allow user 1 wish. The system can grant special weapon, or ability, or even change the system itself]

"That's a bit vague. I'll cross the bridge when I come to it" he said

Since he determined that his "Healing" ability was broken, he decided to test his other abilities. "Magic Missile" he called out

The tree he aimed at burst into flames

Remembering that "Magic Missile" spells are auto aiming, he decided to simply shoot the missiles randomly, while mentally targeting certain trees

Like he expected, the magic missiles swerved in the air and all landed on the trees he had targeted

The forest caught fire, and Sam wondered, as he had used these magic missiles on the wolves last night. "How much mana has been used?" he asked 

[Mana? Unable to understand the query]

"Huh? Does that mean..." Sam realized that he had no limits. "Then how do I do a summoning?" he asked

[Summoning a familiar will reduce your Level by one. If you go below Level 1, you will lose all 3 abilities. You may select familiar from your memory]

"Oh, so I cannot go below Level 1, and I use 1 level for my familiar. Can I summon Guenhwyvar? Drizzt Do'urdan's familiar from the Forgotten Realms books?" Sam asked

[Unable to comply. No reference point to abilities of Guenhyvar]

"Huh? What do you mean?" Sam asked

[From your mind, we have no reference point to how said familiar moves, how fast or how powerful. The closest reference point is of a panther. Do you want to proceed?]

"No. I suppose not. Guenhyvar or even a tiger may not be the most advantageous in a realm that may have dragons and other mythological creatures. What choices do I have?" Sam asked

[While searching your memories, a certain category of familiars may be summoned, based on necessary characteristics and sufficient video and movie footage]

"Necessary characteristics, like what?" Sam asked

Familiar must be female]

"Huh? Why?" Sam asked

[Because Sam Serra is male now

"What does that have to do with anything?"

[Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve]

"What the fuck? I may not be gay, but because I am a male, I cannot have a male familiar?"

[Affirmative. The penis fits with the vagina, not with another penis. That's how procreation works]

"I understand how sex works, but what does that have to do with summoning a familiar?" Sam asked

[Only a male and female can reproduce]

"Reproduce... a familiar?" Sam asked

[Affirmative]

Sam was stunned. Why does this sound more complicated than it has to be? "Fuck it. What do you suggest?" Sam asked

[Familiar category - female heroes. Sufficient video footage of multiple targets. Abilities clearly defined]

"Fuck it. Whatever. Just summon a familiar with good battle abilities that can help me in my mission" Sam said
